To configure your Sync options, once your done; go back to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then Tap on the Account we just made to change the Mail Days to Sync options, etc.  I have mine set to one week.

However, your main default one will shows right now.  If you have multiple calendars you can allow syncing of these calendars via the Google Sync page.

  • On your iPad, open Safari and go to m.google.com/sync
  • Click on your Device and then choose the Calendars you want to sync.  Click on Save and your other Calendars will start syncing.

I know this has been asked in the past but i cant get it to work, sync contacts from ipad to google. All the rest works great. Is there a settings or some where to tell it to sync form ipad to google contacts.

  • Bl_1972

    Hi
It has been asked before and also answered before, just much further down. Answer is: click on Groups, the red tab at the top of the Contacts page, and click on Contacts under Exchange. The default setting is All contacts on my iPad, which doesn’t sync. It took me an hour to find out, and it is surprising this cannot be found easily, as it is quite essential.
    Good luck.

  • Wcuatt

I am still missing a step, i find Groups and click on it and see contacts under Exchange. when i click on this it just takes me to contacts on settings options, What am i Missing.

  • Bl_1972

I don’t know what you mean. In my case it just shows the whole contact list, as also visible on your computer when looking at contacts. And any addition or change via your iPad in this Group is almost immediately visible on your computer.
If you see a settings screen, i don’t know. Just aim for setting it to Exchange. I cannot help you any further I am afraid.
    Good luck

  • Wcuatt

I found it and thanks, it is working good……

  • Warrenchell

This doesn’t work. At final step, it asks for exchange password, and it doesn’t accept the gmail account password

i successfully added my google calender this morning using the method above but I didn’t quite dare do my contacts (i wanted to see if the calender worked first) and th e idea of wiping my phone contacts scared me too. I just went back to do it and it won’t let me get to that step because it says an identical exchange account already exists. Is there a way round this: to sync my contacts with gmail over the air? thanks

  • Randy

I just followed your instructions.  Worked perfectly, first time!!

  • Jillian

This isn’t working for me.  Is there a chance that iOS 5.0 is messing up the fix?

  • Miketgd

Worked perfectly on IPad2 – even for a technical idiot like me.

  • Toniasb612

It was easy and worked perfectly. Thank you.

  • Matt 37920

    Worked great. Thanks.

  • Issyisbusy

This also happened to me. Does anyone else know what should be put in for password

  • Dvorah Getzler

Your solution was perfect…..and I had been so irritated by Ipad 2′s failure to sync my contactsl Thank you very much? What else can we ask you?
    Best wishes, Dvorah G.

  • Michael

    Awesome. Thanks!

  • Brookelyn_kcmo

AWESOME!! Thanks so much…soooo easy and I did right from my ipad2:)

Hi, I have my calendar set up in Exchange and it’s working great, but when I add an event on my ipad, it doesn’t sync to my google calendar on my pc.  When I add an event on my pc, it shows up right away on my ipad.  Can you help me?

  • Var

    Exactly the same problem here….

  • Sohappy2bhere

So I followed all the steps and I can see my email messages, but where can I view my actual contacts from my gmail account?

  • Carolzdg

Thank you, thank you!  Getting these g-mail contacts into my ipad2 had been giving me a lot of grief.  Your tutorial made it very easy.

  • Joe B.

    Sam exact problem.

  • Var

Finally found the reason. You have to make sure the Exchange calendar is selected when you add the event.

You can make this the default calendar in the settings.

  • Hberman18136

    this is the winning solution!!!!!
now if i could only get my wife’s shared calendar to show up i’d be done

  • Lrobiner

Help! When i use the suggested method, i can get my gmail contacts to sync with ipad, but the street address is not brought over to the ipad. I only get city, state, zip. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Thank you so much! Simple and clear assistance! Much appreciated!

  • Kaytgarrett

This worked great. Thank you. For some reason though, it only imported 50 of my gmail contacts. Is there an easy way to expand the number of contacts shown?

  • Nmpops

That was The Missing Link.  Thank you very much.

  • Nmpops

Got this below from BI_1972:  Answer is: click on Groups, the red tab at the top of the Contacts
page, and click on Contacts under Exchange. The default setting is All
contacts on my iPad, which doesn’t sync. It took me an hour to find out,
and it is surprising this cannot be found easily, as it is quite
    essential.

This solved it for me.  Thank you both.  What an amazing age we live in.

  • Amitkmeht

Thanks so much buddy for this info!!!!! I have been going crazy on this contacts situation, for some word reason when I did the setup for the gmail, it asked me for everything else but my contacts so this solution was really helpful. Thanks again.

  • Mike Sager

    SWEET!

  • SSW

I tried this on my touch and it worked great.  I now am trying to figure out my ipad and had set up icloud.  This was supposed to do all the synching, but my contacts do not sync.  Should I delete the icloud account and use this method instead?

  • Jpzarek

WOW!!!!!!! From a 50 year old that still uses stamps!

  • Halvorss

This worked like a charm, thank you! One point of interest, which may be obvious to some (but wasn’t to me): if you are a two-step verification password user on Google, you will need to generate a two-step password for the exchange account. Your regular google password will not work.

Thank you for solving such a critical issue!

  • Hal

I have the cloudl on my iPad, and this process seems to work independently–so it appears they can both co-exist on the device.

  • Eependergrass

    Thank you!!!!!!

  • Eependergrass

I just figured this out! You have to tell it to sync all events under contact sync. Otherwise it’s only syncing things recently added to your contacts. It worked for mine. Before, I was only getting 50 contacts also. Hope that works for you!!

  • Truryderzatl

Thanks so much, now how do I go to my android phone and convert or link all contacts to google so that they can be synced?

  • Zzz

    Works great thank you!!

  • Forl3ssnow

Works great. Thank you for the server settings and easy to follow screenshots.

  • Sonia

    Works a dream

  • Anonymous

Many thanks, Thomas ;) I’m setting up my Christmas iPad2 & while my google gmail & calendar did sync as anticipated from within iTunes, for no logical reasons my Google Contacs were totally left at the gate. I’m grateful to have this alternative to now try.

  • Brant-Virginia Classic Mustang

Thanks for posting this.  It seems like the best way to handle contacts and calendars on the iPad.

  • LS

if you have 2 step verification, then after you create the account, you will be prompted for an exchange password. you will need to use the “application specific password” function to generate a password for this.

  • Melissa Sinha84

Thank you so much for the easy to follow instructions. It really helped!

  • Serenasimages

Lat step asks for Exchange password.  What am I supposed to enter?  The gmail account password doesn’t work.

  • Serenasimages

Meslissa – did you have to enter an Exchange password?  This would be the final step in the process, but I don’t know what to enter.  See my post above.  Any answers?

  • Eg3509

thank you so much for your details instructions .. work like a charm.
